There’s something about a sunny afternoon on the water that makes London feel like a different city altogether. The hustle fades, the pace slows and it’s just you, your friend, good food and great conversation.
GoBoat offers self-drive electric boat rental across four London locations, allowing you to captain your own floating picnic while exploring some of the city’s prettiest stretches of the Thames. It’s eco-friendly, easy to steer and designed to create a relaxed and enjoyable time.
GoBoat originated in Copenhagen and brought it’s sustainable, self-drive boating concept to London in 2017. The boats are made from recycled and sustainably sourced materials, powered by silent, fully electric motors and seats up to 8 people around a central table. You don’t need any previous boating experience is needed and its suitable for all ages as long as the driver is 18 or above.
You can bring your own picnic, drinks (including alcohol except at Paddington). Completely personalise your experience and have a relaxing adventure on the water.
The silent, electric motors emits zero noise pollution and zero emissions. It allows you to talk to your crew and watch the wildlife glide past you.
One of the best things about each location offers a different vibe, route and extra touches.
GoBoat Paddington
Nestled in the picturesque Paddington Basin, the starting point is surrounded by modern cafes, canal side restaurants, beautifully designed narrow board along a quiet stretch of the river.
West Route (1 hour booking): Head towards the Union Tavern, passing a peaceful, tree-covered island nestled in Little Venice. A charming feature of this hidden stretch of regents canal.
East Route (2–3-hour booking): Venture towards Camden Lock, passing by Regent’s Park and London Zoo. You will see elegant Victorian mansions, peaceful towpaths and lush greenery.
GoBoat Canary Wharf
For a completely different atmosphere, GoBoat Canary Wharf swaps leafy canals for glassy docks and dramatic skyscraper views. It’s a sleek and urban waterscape where you can cruise through quiet docklands and London’s impressive modern skyline.
A fun extra here is the Butler Boat Service. A dedicated boat acts as a floating bar and snack stop. So, if you are cruising the docklands and missing an ice cream or beer, just scan the QR code, pick from the menu and it will be delivered straight to you.
GoBoat Kingston
Set along a beautiful stretch of the Thames in southwest London, Kingston’s GoBoat experience feels like a countryside escape with leafy riverbanks, grand riverside homes and Hampton court palace.
Kingston is also the only GoBoat location where you’re allowed to moor up at designated spots during your 2-3-hours plus trips. Book a 2 hour plus trip and you can stop off at GoBoat Thames Ditton to top up on picnic supplies and alcohol before continuing your adventure.
GoBoat Thames Ditton
A newcomer to the GoBoat family, Thames Ditton offers another tranquil Thames experience. It’s one of the most scenic routes with gentle bends, charming riverside houses and the palace too.
Excitingly, the Thames Ditton site recently introduced alcohol sales onsite, meaning you can pick up wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks, perfect if you wanted a hassle-free picnic. It’s a great option for a lazy summer afternoon and the route here feels particularly peaceful, removing yourself from the city crowds.
Booking is simple via the GoBoat website, find the date and time you prefer and the location you desire. Rates depend on the location and what day of the week so when you book it will show you the price for you preferred slot.
When it comes to supplies, you can bring your own food and drinks (depending on the location) but also check out the picnic packages and food partnerships Kingston and Canary Wharf have to offer.
Sites such as Thames Ditton and Canary wharf sell alcohol on sites whilst the others sell non-alcohol drinks and snacks.
Whether you’re after a romantic date, a fun family outing, or a casual catch up with friends. GoBoat London is a brilliant way to get outside and enjoy what London has to offer. Each location offers a unique vibe, from Paddington’s leafy canals to Canary Wharf urban docklands and the riverside tranquillity of Kingston and Thames Ditton.
With flexible booking, eco-friendly boats and the freedom to fully personalise your experience, GoBoat is a lovely way to make the most of a sunny day in London.
