What to Wear on a Boat Trip in London

They say there's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. As we all know, the changeable climate in the capital means the weather can be unpredictable.

Whether you're cruising on the Regent's Canal from Paddington or sailing down the Thames in Kingston, what you wear on a GoBoat rental in London can make or break your experience.

Spring Sailing (March-May)

Spring brings see new life burgeoning along London's waterways, but the air and water can still be quite chilly. So we always recommend dressing warmer than you would on dry land:

- Lightweight layers like long trouser and long-sleeved tops

- A warm jacket or coat

- Closed-toe shoes with good traction like trainers

- Accessories like a scarf, hat, and gloves

- A waterproof outer shell to block any spring showers although we do provide umbrellas

Also great to bring to your GoBoat trip are rain jackets, blankets, an umbrella, and a hot drink in a thermos for extra cosiness on cooler spring days.

Summer Cruising (June - August)

London summers can be bring a heatwave, but the breeze off the water may require light layers even on hotter days. Stay prepared with:

- Breathable tops and lightweight trousers or shorts

- A wide-brimmed sun hat

- Polarized sunglasses

- Sun cream (reapply frequently!)

- A long-sleeved tops or a cover-up for sun protection

- A lightweight jumper or jacket for cooler evenings

Remember to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, and grab one of our golf umbrellas for shade.

Autumn Voyages (September - November)

Autumn boating in London means crisp air, colourful leaves, and the need for warmer layers:

- Thermals or base layers

- An insulating mid-layer like a cosy fleece

- A waterproof and windproof outer jacket

- Warm accessories like a scarf, beanie, and gloves

- Closed-toe shoes or boots with good tread like trainers

Are lifejackets included in the price

Yes, lifejackets are included in the price. Lifejackets for adults are located in the storage compartment of each boat. Lifejackets for adults are optional although we do advise it.
All children aged 16 and under are required to wear a lifejacket.

Are the boats covered?

No, our boats are not covered. However, if it rains or you are in need of some shade from the sun, there are umbrellas on each boat that you can borrow for free.

Is it cold on the water?

Generally, being out on the water will feel slightly colder than the temperature on land. For that reason, it's always good to bring an extra layer of clothing even in the summer.
