Below you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) about sailing in a GoBoat. We've divided the questions into several topics based on your situation, e.g. questions about booking and cancellations, about what to do before sailing, about what to do during sailing and about the rules of sailing and the waters. All the FAQs are based on our terms which cover all the fine print. You can also use the search field to quickly find an answer.

Booking and Cancellations

Do I have to book my GoBoat trip in advance?

We are often fully booked, so we highly recommend booking in advance to ensure you get a boat. You can book here.

That said you are always welcome to come by to see if we have any availability however please be aware that during peak times we are often sold out.

How much does renting a GoBoat cost?

Our prices differ based on the date, time and location. Please check our booking system for accurate, up to date pricing based on your desired date, time and location.

Can I hire more than one GoBoat?

Yes, of course! You can book up to 3 boats in one transaction. if you would like to book more than three boats please email us on ahoy@goboat.co.uk so we can discuss your requirements.

Do you offer discounts for multiple boat bookings?

We do not offer discounts on booking multiple boats. Please follow us on social media or sign up to our newsletter to hear first about future promos and discounts.

I can see that you are fully booked. Can I get on a waiting list?

No, unfortunately not. Be sure to book in advance, or try another location, time or date.

How do I cancel my GoBoat booking?

Please refer to your booking confirmation email and click on the link to edit your booking. Our cancellation policy allows you to rearrange your GoBoat booking or cancel to receive a voucher for the full purchase amount up to 48-hours ahead of your sail out time. We do not offer cash refunds for cancellations.

If there is less than 48 hours until your sail out time, you cannot rebook or get a voucher refund.

How do I book a GoBoat online?

You can book a boat on our booking website. Please choose:
Location -> number of boats (each boat fits 8 people) -> number of hours -> date -> time -> your details -> payment by creditcard.

How many boats do you have?

Our locations differ in size.
In Paddington and Kingston we have 16 boats.
In Canary Wharf we have 16 boats.
In Thames Ditton we have 9 boats.
All of our boats fit 8 people, including children and babies.

If I buy a Gift Card can it be used at any GoBoat location?

All of our Gift Cards are site-specific, so please ensure you are purchasing for the correct location; Paddington, Kingston, Canary Wharf or Birmingham.

How do I use my voucher code / Gift Card?

To use your voucher code or Gift Card code, head to the bookings page of the valid location . Enter your voucher code at checkout to apply the discount.

Can I cancel my booking if it rains?

Our operations will continue as usual in wet or snowy weather conditions unless visibility becomes severely impaired which is incredibly rare. Our crew will conduct a dynamic risk assessment on the day of the sail-out, and their decision will be final.

In the case of us cancelling due to low visibility or other weather conditions that would affect the operation, we will inform customers of the cancellation via phone, email or text message and provide them with the option to reschedule their booking or wait until their booked time slot has passed in order to receive a voucher.

Do you have any student discounts?

Students can use the promo code 'STUDENT10' to redeem 10% off weekday bookings. Please be aware that you will be asked to show valid student ID when you arrive for your booking otherwise you will need to pay the remaining fee.

Before sailing

How early should I arrive for my booking?

Please arrive 15 minutes before your booking. This is to ensure there is enough time for you to check in and receive instructions on safety, how to control the boat and route directions for your adventure!

If you show up late you will still need to return your boat at the specified time.

Where is GoBoat located?

Paddington: we are located in Merchant Square, Paddington. Our kiosk is a short walk from both Edgware Road and Paddington stations.
Kingston: find us on Riverside Walk, just next to Kingston Road Bridge
Canary Wharf: our kiosk is in Churchill Place. Take the stairs leading down to the water, around the corner from 25 Churchill Place.
Thames Ditton: you'll find us on Summer Road, not far from Ye Old Swan pub, and next door to Ferry Works.

Are there different sizes of GoBoat?

No, all of our GoBoats are the same size with a maximum capacity of 8 passengers, including children. Each boat has a picnic table in the middle so you can enjoy food and drinks onboard.

Is it possible to use a bathroom before departure?

There are no toilets aboard GoBoat, so we recommend making a visit to the nearest public facility before you check in.
Please ask a crew member to direct you.

Can I buy beverages and snacks at GoBoat?

At Paddington and Kingston we have a small selection of soft drinks and water available to purchase. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink or to purchase something from one of the neighbouring shops / restaurants.

Can I bring my own food and drink?

Absolutely! We encourage you to bring your own picnic, however please remember that Paddington is an alcohol-free location, and that you are unable to bring your own alcohol to our Canary Wharf location. Please check our alcohol restrictions for more information.

Is there somewhere to park nearby?

There are multiple pay and display carparks near all of our sites. Prices for these may vary depending on the time and date of your trip. Please do explore these options in advance.

Where can I explore before my GoBoat trip?

During the trip

Is it possible to get someone to sail the GoBoat for us?

GoBoat is a self-drive experience. We don’t currently offer a skippered service.

How many people can be in a GoBoat?

GoBoats have a maximum capacity of 8 persons. This includes children and babies.

Can we go through locks?

No, unfortunately GoBoats are not permitted through locks.

Can I bring my dog on the GoBoat?

Yes! We love dogs. Please be aware that we do not provide life jackets for dogs. They are brought onto the boat at their owner’s risk.

Do you have a storage where we can put our stuff while sailing?

We do not have any storage facilities for customers to store possessions. You are able to take your possessions onboard with you, but please bear in mind that an excess of personal belongings may crowd the boats.

Can I pick the boat up or drop it off somewhere else?

No, all boats must depart from and return back to the GoBoat pontoon where you started your journey.

How do I sail the GoBoat?

GoBoats are tiller controlled and powered by an electric motor connected to a rechargeable battery.

What happens if it rains?

GoBoat operates in rain or shine! You can read our full weather policy here.

Is GoBoat fully accessible?

Due to the design of our boats, those with limited mobility may find it difficult to board. Our team are always on hand to assist where possible however if you are a wheelchair user we recommend that you ensure that you have enough helpers to aid you to embark and disembark the vessel safely. Our crew are not permitted to lift wheelchairs on and off the vessel.

Can I take my wheelchair onboard a GoBoat?

It is not possible to fit a wheelchair onboard a GoBoat. If you are not sure whether a GoBoat trip is suitable for you please reach out to us prior to booking by emailing ahoy@goboat.co.uk.

Can I leave my wheelchair at the GoBoat kiosk whilst I go on my trip?

It may be possible to leave your wheelchair at the GoBoat kiosk whilst you go on your trip. Please email ahoy@goboat.co.uk 48 hours in advance to confirm.

Can we drive the boat to a destination on the route or does the boat need to be driven back? For example: “Can we drive the boat to Camden and drop off there?"

Unfortunately you cannot get off, and leave the boat unattended at any point of your trip. Our crew will go through the route with every customer based on the duration of the booked boat trip and will show you the turning point on the map to drive the boat back to the base at each GoBoat UK location.

Can I moor/park the boat during the journey and leave it to go somewhere?

The safety of our customers is the main priority for us, and therefore once you are out on the waters you are not able to moor the boat to go on the land. Once you are sailing, you are sailing.

Safety

Are life jackets included in the price?

Yes, lifejackets are included in the price. Lifejackets for adults are located in the storage compartment of each boat. Lifejackets for adults are optional although we do advise it.
All children aged 16 and under are required to wear a lifejacket.

Do you have life jackets for children and babies?

Yes we have life jackets specific for children and infants. All children must wear a lifejacket throughout the duration of their trip.

Do you need a license or previous experience to drive a GoBoat?

No previous experience or license is necessary to sail a GoBoat. They are easy to control. The only requirement is that any captain of the boat is 18 years or older.

You will receive a full boat handover from an experienced member of staff before you set off to ensure you have all the information and skills necessary to enjoy the experience safely.

Can we stop the GoBoat and moor up somewhere?

We kindly ask that you do not stop the GoBoat or moor up anywhere along the route as without sufficient knowledge of these waterways and our boats this can be dangerous.
Please note that you must not disembark your GoBoat at any point during your trip unless it’s an emergency.

Are the boats covered?

No, our boats are not covered. However, if it rains or you are in need of some shade from the sun, there may be umbrellas or ponchos upon request at each location that you can borrow for free - please just ask one of our team.

Where is the nearest defibrillator?

GoBoat UK does not currently have any defibrillators on site. To find the closest ones to each location, please visit https://www.defibfinder.uk/. For each location, the nearest is; Kingston - Natwest Bank (KT1 1JX), Canary Wharf - 25 Churchill Place (E14 5EY), Paddington - Floor 11 at 5 Merchant Square (W2 1AY), Thames Ditton - PRP Architects Ferry Works (KT7 0QJ).

Rules

Am I allowed to drink alcohol onboard?

Paddington: Paddington is an alcohol-free location and therefore no alcohol may be taken on board. Any GoBoat users seen to be breaking this rule may have their trip terminated.

Canary Wharf: Alcoholic beverages must be purchased from our kiosk or website only. Alcohol purchased from any other vendor may not be taken aboard. Standard rules and limitations as shown below apply.

All other locations: The captain (driver) of the boat must not be under the influence of alcohol at any time during the trip. Passengers may consume 2 beers/cans or half a bottle of wine per person. We we ask for moderation and good behaviour.

Only beer, wine and ready-to-drink alcohol beverages are allowed. We confiscate spirits as these are not permitted onboard. Moreover, we confiscate large amounts of wine and beer. Confiscated alcohol is handed out after the voyage has ended.
We reserve the right to reject drunk guests before departure.

Please remember, the waterways are public places and are often busy with other users. Many residents live close to or on the rivers and canals. Safety is our top priority - yours and everyone else's. How old do you have to be in order to sail the boat?

Captains (driver) must be aged 18 or over. There is no age restriction on being a passenger in the boat.

Can we bring speakers onboard?

We kindly ask that no speakers are brought onboard, this is out of respect for other users of the waterways as well as local residents.

Can we bring things to decorate the GoBoat for a special occasion?

Yes absolutely, we encourage you to bring decorations for any special occasion! Please allow enough time at the end of your booking to remove anything you have brought with you and remember to dispose of it sensibly.

Can we go swimming from the boat?

No, customers are not permitted to go swimming from the boat as it’s a danger to yourself and other users of the water. Under no circumstances should anyone attempt to enter the water whilst onboard a GoBoat.

Please do not allow children (or adults) to sit at the back of the boat with their legs dangling in the water. Propellers can be dangerous, and we want everyone to have a happy and healthy trip.
